Olivetti – Utopia, Abandoned

The computers we had a in high-schools were Olivetti M24, which I were pretty underwhelming machines when you came from the Commodore 64: no sound and monochrome graphics. The university of Geneva also had some, which ended up being converted into terminals with a floppy disk locked inside the drive, a makeshift, low capacity hard-drive. Like many computer manufacturers at the time, it faded out of my life.

Little did I know that Olivetti used to have an model city for its workers in the city of Ivrea. The New York Times has an interesting article, and the site is now a registered UNESCO heritage site.
