Inglehart-Welzel Cultural Map of the World

One interesting blog I recommend is the strange maps blog. One recent post was about the Inglehart-Welzel Cultural Map of the World. On this map, countries are not represented by their geographical location, but on their cultural values: the traditional ⇔ secular axis vertically and the survival ⇔ self-expression axis horizontally. Of course, one can discuss the both thoses axes and the calibration (the country closest to 0,0 is Croatia), but it shows which countries are culturally close. Unsuprisingly, Japan is a complete outlier. Still I would have expected Taiwan and Japan to be closer to each other.

  1. Oooo! This is a point mentioned. I like when everything in place while it is understandable to mere mortals.
