African Angels

While I lived for many years in Zürich, I had never been to the Theater 11. I somehow felt it was a small hall, which it is, if you compare it with the Hallenstadion, which is nearby.

The show we went to see was African Angels – Cape Town Opera Chorus, as the title suggest, this is a choir from South Africa, singing… pretty much everything, from parts of Italian Opera to songs I associated with the voice of Johnny Clegg. There is some strange in realising you the lyrics in some south african language are more familiar to you than Italian.

We had booked the tickets a long time ago, but I had really no clear idea what to expect, but I loved it. The voices were powerful and moving. I was not the only one who loved the show, as there was a standing ovation at the end, not something that common in Switzerland.
