CERN – Building 40

One of the web comics I have been reading for the longest time is user-friendly. While it is not my favorite, it is kind of a classic for me. The latest story arc happens at CERN, still I was somehow surprised to recognize the buses of Geneva, and yesterday, building 40, where I used to work. The CMS experiment has its offices in the left wing while Atlas has the right wing. The building was nice, but had no form of air conditioning. So it was very hot in summer, and very cold in winter.

  1. Like most of the buildings at CERN and more generally in switzerland! I don’t see the interest of aircon, except a big waist of energy, in a country where the temperature go over 25C only 1 month a year!

    You were lucky to be in this nice building 90% of CERN is just 50 years old crumbling buildings…

  2. Well this was the year of the heat-wave. And Switzerland has a few months were temperature is below 10°. There is this cool technology called isolation…
